Forestry and Land Scotland will soon begin a programme of felling at Culloden Woods and Cullernie, with operations scheduled to commence in Cullernie towards the end of 2025, followed by the commencement of felling in three areas within Culloden Woods over the next three years.
These works will involve tree harvesting, as a number of trees in the woodland have reached their maximum height and now pose a risk of windblow. The felling is necessary to ensure public safety, protect infrastructure and maintain the overall health of the woodland environment.
The Cullernie harvesting will be taking place in the last quarter of 2025, whilst the forest road works in Culloden are taking place to allow harvesting there. The three harvesting areas in Culloden are scheduled for felling: the first from autumn 2026 to early 2027, the second from autumn 2027 to early 2028, and the third from autumn 2028 to early 2029.
Tree harvesting will follow sustainable forest management practices, focusing on the removal of mature and over-mature conifers, while retaining as much of the broadleaf component as is safely possible.
FLS are in the process of arranging public consultation meetings and we will provide an update when the dates are confirmed.
We will shortly be in contact with local residents in this area to advise them of the upcoming works and to request that all safety signage and alternative route maps are adhered to.
